Image size guide
The pixel sizes itistitle exports, where each is used, and what to watch for. Platforms change from time to time, so these are sensible defaults rather than rules.
| Format | Size (px) | Ratio | Used for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 × 720 | 16:9 | YouTube video thumbnails | Keep text away from the bottom-right corner (the duration badge). Under 2 MB when uploading. |
| Reel cover | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 | Instagram Reels, Stories, TikTok and Shorts covers | Keep text between about 15% and 75% of the height; buttons and captions cover the rest. |
| Social post | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 | Instagram and Facebook square posts | Works in the feed and grid. Keep key words 8% in from each edge. |
| Instagram portrait post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 | Instagram 4:5 feed posts | Takes the most feed space. The profile grid crops to the centre, so keep key words central. |
| LinkedIn / Facebook link post | 1200 × 630 | 1.90:1 | LinkedIn and Facebook link or image posts | Shown wide in the feed and often cropped on mobile. Keep the title centred with generous margins. |
| X (Twitter) post | 1600 × 900 | 16:9 | X posts with a 16:9 image | 16:9 shows fully in the feed on most devices. Keep text large; it’s displayed small. |
| Pinterest pin | 1000 × 1500 | 2:3 | Pinterest pins (2:3) | Tall pins get more space. Put the title in the upper two-thirds, since long pins are cropped in some feeds. |
General rules
- Keep important words at least 5% away from every edge (8% on portrait formats).
- Design at full size, not smaller: platforms shrink images but can’t add sharpness.
- Check the preview at thumbnail size; if you can’t read it there, make the text bigger or shorter.
- Switch format any time in the editor. Your words and settings stay, and the layout adapts.
